Clothing Ministry
History Of The Ministry
The ministry began after a row of apartments and a couple businesses caught fire across from the church in June 2010. Our building acted as a refuge for the victims on the night of the fire as there was a Church Council meeting occurring that night. Several members stayed and aided those displaced by the fire well into the evening. It was decided to do a clothing drive to help the victims. Bags of clothing filling up TWO Sunday School classrooms off the social hall came in over the next several days. The following week, fire victims came in to gather any articles of clothing needed. Others in the community were then welcomed to whatever items were left at the end of the week. Out of this was borne the Clothing Ministry, as a need was noticed. A free clothing giveaway occurred twice a year. Items left over afterwards went to the Salvation Army and sometimes other locations. Due to aging volunteers and lowering numbers of volunteers, as well as lessening attendance to the giveaways, a different method of collecting clothes in partnership with CommunityAid began in 2019. Information on that ministry can be found below.
St. Peter's Lutheran Church is a partner with the CommunityAid Foundation. A collection bin to drop off clothing items is located on our property. The church benefits by receiving a quarterly cash per pound payment of clothing collected.
Clothing Drop-OffDrop off clothing and shoes at any time during the week in our bin. Donations are removed at least once a week and then sold in CommunityAid thrift stores. If the bin is full, please consider taking your donations to your nearest CommunityAid thrift store. Provide the name of the church and our partner number found in the image to the left so St. Peter's can get credit. Monetary payment is given to the church per pound donated.
** PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE DONATIONS IN FRONT OF THE BIN. THIS IS CALLED DUMPING. ** |
Clothing Vouchers
Our church receives clothing vouchers known as Care Cards quarterly that will be made available to those in need. These can be used at any CommunityAid thrift store within 30 days of being received. Each voucher is worth $25. Only $300 worth of vouchers are given each quarter.
